Job Summary
Southeast Kansas Library System is looking for Digital Literacy Navigators to assist in a one year grant-funded project to promote the use of emerging technologies and knowledge of digital literacy skills. These positions will be contracted employees. Navigators will provide training and assistance to staff and patrons at libraries in the following counties: Allen, Anderson, Bourbon, Chautauqua, Cherokee, Crawford, Elk, Greenwood, Labette, Linn, Montgomery, Neosho, Wilson and Woodson. Preference will be given to candidates from within the county to be served. Each contracted Navigator will be responsible for providing at least 5 hours of library programming to the public and/or staff per week.
Compensation will be $20 per one hour of library programming provided. The contract period is from July 1, 2025 to July 31, 2026. Applications will be accepted until all of the counties are covered. Each Digital Literacy Navigator will be provided courseware, materials, and a voucher to obtain an IC3 Digital Literacy Certification from Certiport. Training is also available for NorthStar Digital Literacy Certificates. Veterans, retirees, recent college graduates, current college students, current library staff and current educators are encouraged to apply.
Digital Literacy Navigators may be eligible to receive 6 to 8 weeks of employment/training from Kansas Works for up to 25 hours per week.
Responsibilities
Rotate equipment between the libraries within the six (6) defined areas, with emphasis on one or two counties with your own transportation.
Train library staff and patrons on digital literacy using Northstar, Kansas State Library Databases, and 55 Plus/Techwise training materials.
Train library staff and patrons on the use of emerging technologies including: 3D printers, laser cutters, laser engravers, virtual reality technology, robotic kits, augmented reality sandbox, Cricut cutting machines, cardboard cutter, and 3D scanner.
Assist library staff with marketing upcoming programs and documenting events with reports and pictures.
Gather and report accurate statistics to the Technology Consultant/ Project Coordinator.
Assist Technology Consultant/ Project Coordinator in preparing marketing and training material.
Conduct at least 5 hours of programs per week for assigned libraries.
Other duties may be assigned based upon the needs of the libraries and the skill set of the Digital Literacy Navigator.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience with emerging technology such as 3D Printers, Laser Cutters, Laser Engravers, Virtual Reality, Scanners, Robotic Kits, Augmented Reality Sandbox, Cricut Cutting Machines, Cardboard Cutter and 3D Scanner.
Experience with training in small or large group environments.
Experience with some of the Kansas State Library Databases.
Experience with instructional planning.
Requirements:
Successful background check.
Drivers license and vehicle capable of carrying and transporting equipment among libraries.
Each candidate will be required to take and receive at least a 50 percent score on the following assessment tests:
